My most-recent paintings were inspired by both nature and industry. There are beautiful things to be found in both – the bright lights, colors, and chaos of a Hong Kong night market, the waves of heat pulsating over a wheat field on a late summer day, or billows of steam rising from the air vents of a massive steel building. I am content both in the city and the country. Many of my paintings are a reflection of this – a subtle union between soft stillness and commotion.
I am particularly interested in creating a vague history in my paintings, as I am drawn to things with an unknown history, things unexplained or paranormal. I create indefinite images by layering colors and textures. After letting them rest for a while, I scrape a bit away to reveal a glimpse of what lay beneath; a hidden secret of a former existence. A history and a foundation are created, and it is left for the viewer’s imagination to build upon.
